Fifth Generation

R.F. Giddings fifth generation saw miller located in Bartley near Southampton, is proud of the fact that they are an important New Forest employer.

It's not a commitment that R.F. Giddings takes lightly, nor do we underestimate our ties with the local community and the ecology of our beloved new forest which has recently been given National Park designation.

Tradition

Following a devastating fire in 2005 that destroyed our main sawmill, R.F. Giddings embarked on a remarkably ambitious reconstruction programme that has surpassed everyone's expectations.

Swedish sawmill manufacturer Soderhamn Eriksson was commissioned to build what was at the time their company's biggest turn-key project to date, which is no small matter as Soderhamn Eriksson is arguably one of the world's foremost designers and manufacturers of sawmills.

Our newly housed machine shop is able to perform a full range of services that include; round top machining, back weathering, bird mouthing and a host of other services that have been designed to provide the busy fencing contractor with a variety of pre-prepared timber for quick and easy installation on site, thereby avoiding the use of portable power tools and all of the health and safety problems associated with them.
